The Ultimate Guide to Cleaning Your Jewellery at Home

If you are unsure how to best take care of your engagement and wedding jewelry on a daily basis, we thought it would also be helpful to share how to care for and clean precious gems and gold.

    • How should I clean my diamond ring and wedding band?

You can come by in our shop and we will give your jewellery a nice clean. Otherwise, you can also clean your Diamond, Sapphires, Emeralds, Tourmaline, Amethyst, and Garnets jewellery at home:

    1. Put your jewellery in some Mr. Clean solution and warm-hot water in a bowl.
    2. Take out the jewellery and lightly scrub with an old soft-bristle toothbrush.
    3. Rinse your jewellery under water & dry with a towel or cloth.

    Enjoy your jewellery!

DO NOT CLEAN ANY POROUS OR ORGANIC JEWELLERY (such as pearls, turquoise, opals, amber, etc…).

    • What about ultrasonic cleaners? Is it a good tool for my diamond ring?

It’s a good tool to have, but not necessary. It is a safe and low-maintenance way to keep your diamond jewelry clean and shiny. You can use soapy water and a soft toothbrush for regular cleaning and use your ultrasonic cleaner once a month.
Generally, you can clean your jewelry as much as you like. There is no harm in cleaning diamonds.
DO NOT CLEAN ANY POROUS OR ORGANIC JEWELLERY (such as pearls, turquoise, opals, amber, etc…).

      • Are there certain gems that are more high maintenance – as in, they should be cleaned more often?

Diamonds can and should be cleaned as often as possible since it attracts oils. Touching your jewelry or putting on hand or body lotion can result in oil getting on your diamond ring, dulling the brilliance and color of your diamond. Softer gemstones require more care, though they do not necessarily need to be cleaned more often.

        • What do I need to know for long-term care for my fine jewelry?

You should bring your jewelry to be checked by your jeweller at least once a year. Jewellers can check if the claws around your gems has loosened or worn down at all (this is especially important on rings). If so, your jeweller can retip the claws by adding a bit of gold to the ends to reinforce the support for your gemstone.
